Each year, the Chancellerie bestows prizes called the “Formal Chancellerie Prizes”, amounting to about half a million euros overall. These prizes reward the academic and scientific quality of PhD theses defended during the previous twelve-month period. TheChancellerie prizes are open to all students enrolled in universities in the Île-de-France region in law and political science, economics and management, medicine and science, arts and humanities, and pharmacy. Application forms must be sent, to the institutes where the students are enrolled or were enrolled when they defended their PhD thesis. These distinctions and financial aid are awarded, following an initial selection process in the institutes concerned, by panels made up of three people who are either university professors or members of one of the senior branches of the civil service or of the Institut de France.
The Chancellerie also awards prizes for PhD theses in law and economics for which the administrative procedure has, up until now, been through the research and communication department of Université Paris – Panthéon Assas.
